Rediscovered quotes

While putting together a birthday present for a friend, I found some good quotes that I wanted to share.

'Controversial,' as we all know, is often a euphemism for 'interesting and intelligent.'
--Kevin Smith

"Isn't it odd how much fatter a book gets when you've read it several times?" Mo had said..."As if something were left between the pages every time you read it. Feelings, thoughts, soungs, smells...and then, when you look at the book again many years later, you find yourself there, too, a slightly younger self, slightly different, as if the book had preserved you like a pressed flower...both strange and familiar."
--from Inkspell by Cornelia Funke

...all the books we own, both read and unread, are t he fullest expression of self we have at our disposal. ... But with each passing year, and with each whimsical purchase our libraries become more and more able to articulate who we are, whether we read the books or not.
--Nick Hornby from The Polysyllabic Spree

"This is how it works. I love the people in my life, and I do for my friends whatever they need me to do for them, again and again, as many times as is necessary. For example, in your case you always forgot who you are and how much you're loved. So what I do for you as your friend is remind you who you are and tell you how much I love you. And this isn't any kind of burden for me, because I love who you are very much. Every time I remind you, I get to remember with you, which is my pleasure."
--James Lecesne from "My Best Girlfriend"

Consider pain to be a form of emotional energy that, like any other form of energy, can neither be created nor destroyed. The act of suicide, rather than acting as an end to that pain, instead acts as a conductor. The pain follows the path of least resistance to those who were closest to you at the time, like a bolt of lightning striking a tree during a storm.
--Kaitlyn Tierney Duggan from "Hatchback"

New books--Now in one convenient post!

I saved up my new books until I had a bunch so that I'm not posting every other day.

Paperbackswapped & bookmooched:
  • Boogiepop Doesn't Laugh #1 by Kouhei Kadono & Kouji Ogata
  • My Paranoid Next Door Neighbor by Kazuka Minami

Both probably destined to be sent back out to be swapped or mooched...

Found cheap at B&N and Borders:

  • Be More Chill by Ned Vizzini
  • To Serve and Submit by Susan Wright

These are actually on my to read list. Sweet!

  • Scouting for Girls: The Original 1920 Girl Scout Handbook by the Girl Scouts, Inc.
  • A Pound of Flesh by Susan Wright

Librarything has this new early reviewers program where you can request advance copies of books to read and review. It's pretty sweet. But there's huge lists for them every month. But I snagged one!

  • Gossip of the Starlings by Nina de Gramont

We'll see how it is. I'll post my review here, if I write one. I'm not so good with my thoughts, though...at least, getting them out coherently.

Poems & quotes

Poems from two of the books I read yesterday and a quote from a book I read last week...

In the Morning

there's
this golden moment
when the sun
licks through the gauze
fluttering at my window
warming my eyelids to opening

this golden moment
when I'm not yet awake enough
to remember
that there are things
I would rather
forget
--Sonya Sones

God Got a Dog

He never meant to.
He liked dogs, He'd
liked them ever since He was a kid,
but He didn't think
He had time for a dog now.
He was always working
and dogs needed so
much attention.
God didn't know if He
could like being needed
by one more thing.
But He saw this dog
out by the tracks
and it was hungry
and cold
and lonely
and God realized
He'd made that dog
somehow,
somehow He was responsible
though He knows logically
that He had only set the
world on its course.
He couldn't be blamed
for everything.
But He saw this dog
and He felt bad
so He took it on home
and named it Ernie
and now God
has somebody
keeping His feet warm at night.
--Cynthia Rylant

Love and I once had a great relationship, but I fear we've broken up. It cheated on me, wrecked my heart, and then went on to date other people. A lot of other people. And I can't stand to watch it, since love's going to cheat on them too.

Crazy book hoarding day!

I wanted to go get Darkling from Borders because I want to know what happens in the series! And I had a good coupon and $15 in free book money, so...I got these:
  • Her Majesty's Dog #7 by Mick Takeuchi
  • Darkling by Yasmine Galenorn
  • The Book of Luke by Jenny O'Connell

The last one was b/c it was so cheap! I got two other cheap books and when I looked them up on Paperbackswap, there's huge waiting lists! So I immediately posted them. Eh, they looked interesting, but not that interesting. They were $2 each.

And because I was so bored tonight while I was working at the library, I wandered around and found a bunch of books I've been wanting to read. So I'm hoarding, again. *sighs* And I was doing so good! I had finally gotten down to under 30 items checked out again!

Oh well...
